In
the series of shots below you can see the male feeding the female
bird while she sits on the nest. Perhaps they are practicing before
the eggs arrive. The final shot is the nest as it looked at the
end of the day. As you can see, the bottom of the birdbox is still
visible. I am hoping they will line the nest soon. I have started
to put duck down in the garden to encourage them.
11th April 2005
Four days have passed and the nest is growing in size. The female
is making steady if slow progress, with the male appearing from
time to time to inspect what going on. The final picture is the
nest as it looked at the end of the day.
7th April 2005
Nest building began today. The first material was brought in at
7:54am, image 6 shows how the nest looked at the end of the day.
I believe it is the female that performs task of nest building.
I get the feeling that the male visits from time to time to keep
an eye on construction. In the 5th image you can see the wing fanning
action that the bird performs in order to flatten the nesting material.
